Sort order. May 16, Michael Alexander rated it liked it Shelves: art , video-games. I've had this book sitting around for a very long time so I decided I'd finally give it a read. The book covers the events of Resident Evils 0 - 3 and Code Veronica. There's tons of information in this book, unfortunately not all of it is really very interesting or very well written. It devotes pages to things like listing every item that appears in the game, all the herbs, and keys, and weapons, and jewels, etc.
It reprints every journal entry you pick up along the way as well. I've always enjoy I've had this book sitting around for a very long time so I decided I'd finally give it a read. I've always enjoyed the Resident Evil series, but reading it like this, where the book tries to take itself seriously, you see just how silly and campy it really is.
It is a primer on the Resident Evil series , covering the story from Resident Evil 0 to Resident Evil: Code Veronica ; it is an artbook, containing some of the thousands of sketches created for the franchise; it is a character and item guidebook, covering all major items and monsters found in the games; and it is also a great documentation on the design and development on the famous franchise.
Since Resident Evil: Archives: Umbrella's Virus Uncovered is actually a translated edition of a similar book released in Japan , it's content is somewhat dated and vague. The book does not mention Resident Evil 4 , nor does it try to clarify what content that is canon to the Resident Evil series.
In addition, due to the translation errors or perhaps as a result of the often confusing point of views used in the games , many readers will be confused as to how the events happened. Perhaps the biggest complaint about the book is that it covers nothing beyond the events, characters and items in the game, creating an illusion that it's a player's guide while not offering a walkthrough.
This is in direct contrast to Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar , a similar book that covered the development and design process of Half-Life 2 , in addition to the events in the game itself. Nowhere was Resident Evil 1. Sample artwork and concept design used in making Resident Evil 2.
